Lactated Ringer’s (LR) solution—also known as Hartmann’s Solution—is a sterile, isotonic intravenous (IV) fluid used primarily for fluid resuscitation and electrolyte replenishment.

- Dehydration: Replacing fluids lost through vomiting, diarrhea, or heat-related illness.
- Trauma & Blood Loss: Rapidly restoring blood volume in patients with hemorrhagic shock or severe injury.
- Burn Treatment: It is the "gold standard" for burn victims because it helps prevent metabolic acidosis and doesn't cause the same inflammation that high-sodium fluids might.
- Surgery: Used during and after operations to maintain blood pressure and keep the patient hydrated while they cannot eat or drink.
- Acidosis Correction: The "lactate" in the solution is converted by the liver into bicarbonate, which helps neutralize excess acid in the bloodstream (metabolic acidosis).
